Hi Eoin,

Many thanks for your reply to my query! I'm relieved to hear about Precious Diamonds' commitment to ensuring their diamonds are ethically sourced - I wasn't aware of the complexity involved in the typical chain of supply. That could definitely leave room for conflict diamonds to slip in, even for jewellers who would seek to ensure they're not receiving them.

Thanks again, and good luck with the blog! I'll spread the word about the company to anyone who's on the hunt for a rock.

Hi Click Here, thanks for reading my blog, and thanks for giving me the opportunity to discuss this. This is an issue very close to home as Trish is originally from Sierra Leone. When I first considered Diamonds I had the same question. The Kimberley Process is a great idea for rough (uncut) Diamonds but for polished diamonds...
How I ensure my diamonds are conflict free is
first by knowing my cutters ... personally
second by insisting every single diamond I receive has the following accompanying statement: "The Diamonds herein have been purchased from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict and in compliance with U.N. resolutions"
and last by ensuring a very tight/small supply chain, so rather than the traditional chain where the diamond passes from mine to cutter to diamond wholesaler to diamond retailer to jewellery manufacturer to jewellery wholesaler to jewellery retailer ... I work directly with the cutter.

I sign a personal guarantee with every Diamond, and piece of Diamond jewellery and give this to the people who purchase from me.

I hope this answers your question, if you have more please feel free to email me at Diamonds@Precious.ie

How do you verify that your diamonds are fairly traded (e.g. Kimberley Process), and not "blood diamonds" etc.?
