Diamond Engagement Ring – Choice of Settings

Diamond Engagement Ring – Choice of Settings

Over the last couple of weeks I have received quite a few calls from guys, wondering what type of setting they should choose for their future fiancee’s ring.

Here I am going to explore two classic styles, both styles hold ’round brilliant cut diamonds’

The strips of metal that hold a Diamond into a ring are called claws or prongs

Round brilliant cut diamond in a six claw setting

Here are some of the advantages to the six claw setting:
- The diamond is very secure
- The Diamond looks round
- If there are claws at each edge the diamond is protected from accidental knocks
- The Diamond visually looks bigger as the eye is drawn out to the claws.

And here are some advantages to the four claw setting:
- The setting allows maximum light into the diamond, therefore the diamond has the opportunity to sparkle more
- It is possible to see in to the side of the diamond (for clarities: IF, VVS, VS this is an advantage)
- The eye is drawn to the diamond not the claws

In summary, neither setting is better, it is a choice between advantages. and remember you are welcome to swap the setting of the ring without additional cost, after presenting the ring.
